Beijing is the capital of the People's Republic of China and the municipality is under the direct administration of the Central People's Government. The climate in Beijing is of the continental type, with cold and dry winters and hot summers. January is the coldest month (-4 Celsius), while July the warmest (26 Celsius). Beijing has a whole area of 16808 squarekilometres, stretching 160 kilometres from east to west and over 180 kilometres north to south.
The Imperial Forbidden City, the official name is today Imperial Palace Museum), was the Emperor's residence for two dynasties, the Ming Dynasty and the Qing Daynasty, with a history of five hundred years. The Tiananmen Square is the greatest square in the worls and has a size of fourty-four hectares. From here Mao Tse-Tung, the founder of the communism, declared in the year 1949 the People's Republic of China. On one side of the Tiananmen Square is the Great Hall of People situated.
