Burma (Myanmar) stretches for over 1,930 kilometers from South tip of the Tenasserim region, which is facing the Andaman Sea, up to the North Himalayan region. The city was renamed from Rangoon in Yangon in the year 1988. Yangon means "end of strife" and after the British occupation of Burma in the year 1885 the name Yangon anglicized to Rangoon. The Strand Hotel was built in the Victorian Colonial style in the year 1901. This luxurious hotel is a national landmark of Myanmar and it was one of the grand group of the famous hotels of the Sarkies brothers. The hotel has been recently restored and now it reflects the period of the 1920's and 1930's. The Strand Hotel has been several changes over the years but it offers always the charm and elegance of the past.
