The Romans, with their unfailing eye for beauty, were among the first to appreciate the spectacular scenery and temperate climate of Surrentum, perched on the cliffs of the Sorrento Peninsula in an area that also lies along the famous coast road known as the "Amalfitana". A splendid and famous holiday resort, Sorrento stands on a terrace rising steeply above the sea on one of the most spectacular points of the Campanian coast. Because of its enchanting position and mild climate, sheltered by the surrounding hills, Sorrento has been a favorite resort since Romans times, and it became an elite tourist resort from the eighteenth century. The high position above the sea and the consequent absence of a true sea promenade create its extremely original nature.
The four-star Grand Hotel Aminta occupies a commanding position with magical views overlooking the Gulf of Naples surrounded by olive and lemon groves which are typical of the region. The Aminta is 3km from the centre of Sorrento and offers a courtesy bus service. The pool area is rather special, it is peaceful and away from Sorrento's traffic and is kept cool by continuous breeze. It has safe children's area, and sun terraces, which are the right place to relax with a drink or have a snack taken at the pool bar, which most nights offers live music and occasional dancing. Dinner is in the air-conditioned dining room, where an excellent varied menus is served. The Grand Hotel Aminta was built in 1961 and renovated in 2000.
Accommodation features: The Grand Hotel Aminta offers 93 guestroom and junior suites. All guestrrooms and juniorsuites are equipped with hairdryer, air conditioning, international direct dial telephone, colour TV with satellite reception and minibar. Most have balcony with breathtaking views over the Gulf of Naples.
The Villa Aminta, a recently renovated structure was built at the beginning of the 18th Century. It is surrounded by olive and lemon groves, far away from the main road and is connected by anair path to the main building, which is 100 meters away. All the rooms have been recently remodeled and refurbished and have air conditioning, coffee and tea facilities, TV with satellite channels, minibar, safe, hairdryer, email and internet access. All meals are served in the main building.
Dining: The Grand Hotel Aminta is certainly the right place to taste a good variety of excellent italian and international cuisine. Vegetarians and people with special diets can be catered to. A candle-light gala dinner is served, once a week, in the dining room and on the terrace, while enjoying a show of traditional songs and dances.
