The fist-shaped peninsula Argentario (which resembles an island) south of Grosseto is connected by three causeways. The town of Orbetello lies on the central causeway. The peninsula has two main towns - Porto Ercole with its charming, perennially fashionable sailing harbor inhabited by casually elegant yachtsmen and Porto Santo Stefano with its great fish market. This is the place to embark on island cruises. Monte Argentario - the Strada Panoramica, 24 miles around the promotory, is one of the most picturesque drives imaginable. You will pass through oak and pine woods, drive along sheer cliffs dotted with watch towers, stop and enjoy the spectacular view at an old fortress and stop at one of the fine secluded beaches. Casa Grande, offers a perfect place to watch the sun set.
Il Pellicano's superb location offers guests the opportunity to drive or sail to some of the most intriguing places in Tuscany, near the Argentario peninsula, including part of the Tuscan Archipelago, the 17th century Spanish forts on the Tyrrhenian sea, Etruscan and Roman ruins, the Maremma Nature Park and the designated zones where some of Italy's most celebrated wines are produced. The intimate and small Relais et Chateaux four-stae Hotel "Il Pellicano" is one of the most luxurious hotel in the Tuscany with a magnificent view from the terrace over the water. It offers the tranquillity of a private villa and the service of a deluxe hotel. The list of guests reads like a kind of "who's who" of the rich and decorously famous. The villa is surrounded by centenary olive trees, cypresse and pine trees, and the villa and the garden cascade down the hillside to the pool and the private beach.
Accomodation facilities: The Hotel "Il Pellicano" offers 31 comfortable guestrooms, 10 junior suites and 9 deluxe suites. All rooms are furnished elegantly and luxuriously, some with seaview. Several suites have a private pool.
Dining: The restaurant with terrace and panoramic view serves an excellent regional, international and Mediterranean cuisine. During the summer barbeque lunch at the pool with an enchanting view of the Cala dei Santi Bay. In October the Hotel Il Pellicano offers cooking classes. The "Cantina" offers a world wide selection of the best vintage with a particular attention to the Tuscan wines. Wine tasting is available in the wine shop. The shops ships in all Europe.
