The metropolis of Northern Germany, Hamburg, is laid out along the inland Alster lake
and the river Elbe. It is a colourful, exciting and fascinating town, each of whose numerous districts has its own special attractions. You can't do without a visit to the Speicherstadt ("warehouse town"). It is a part of Hamburg's tradition as a centre of trade and commerce. Particularly nice is the view during a boat trip around the harbour, which starts close to the quays. When you book, make sure the trip actually calls
at the "Speicherstadt". Between 1884 and 1888, 17 warehouses with seven or eight floors each and a total floor space of more than 300,000 square meters were built. At its
heyday, the "Speicherstadt" was the largest warehouse complex in the world.
The port of Hamburg is by far the most important in Germany and one of the leading sea goods transhipment centres in the world. It is the gateway to markets in northern, central and eastern Europe, the bridge between the Continent and overseas, as well as being the most important foreign port for Scandinavia and central/eastern Europe for container traffic. Just about 100 km away from the sea, Hamburg’s Elbhafen is accessible even for the largest among the container giants.
SIDE, the luxury design hotel for the individual traveller, is situated in the
heart of Hamburg - between the Gänsemarkt square and the National Opera -, close to the Binnenalster and only a few minutes walk from art and cultural centres as well as shopping precincts and Hamburg's exhibition site. The architect Jan Störmer created a forward-looking facade featuring a combination of glass and nature stone that stretches across all 12 floors. From the top 3 floors, you have a wonderful view across Hamburg. This architecture is complimented by the work of designer Matteo Thun from Mailand and the house bears his handprint. Just minimalist, reducing everything to the bare essentials, that is the fundamental idea behind the work of Matteo Thun when he decorated the public spaces.
Accommodation features: The SIDE offers 168 guestrooms and 10 suites. All rooms and suites are decorated in designer style and they are equipped with air conditioning, satellie TV, radio, direct dial telephone, ISDN and modem connection for PC, wireless internet access, working desk, safe, minibar and bathroom with hairdryer and bathrobe.
- The Superior Rooms have a size of 28 squaremetres and offer a bathroom with tub/shower, cosmetic mirror, queen-size bed, two telephones with voicemail, carpet and parquet floor.
- The Deluxe Rooms have a size of 31 squaremetres and offer a king-size bed, dining table with two chairs, two telephones with voicemail, carpet and parquet floor and a bathroom with tub and shower and cosmetic mirror.
- The Executive Rooms have a size of 46 squaremetres and offer floor to ceiling windows, a king-size bed, dining table, kitchenette with espresso machine, two telephones with voicemail, carpet and parquet floor, and bathroom with tub and separate shower and beauty mirror.
The 10 "flying suites" are located on the 10th and 11th floors, high above
the rooftops of Hamburg. The small balcony provides an even better view. All suites are furnished with a king-sized bed, air-conditioning, radio with CD player, satellite TV, fax, ISDN and modem connections, mini-bar, room safe, two telephones with voice mail, desk, dining table for four to ten persons (depending on the size of the suite), kitchenette with espresso machine, bath and separate shower, WC and bidet, makeup mirror,
bath robe and two wash basins. Upon request also with steam bath.
- The Suites Type S have a size of 60 squaremetres and offer a king-size bed, dining table, working desk, two telephones with with voicemail, radio with CD player, kitchenette with espresso machine and bathroom with tub and separate shower, WC, bidet and two wash basins.
- The Suites Type M have a size of 70 squaremetres and offer a king-size bed, dining table, working desk, two telephones with with voicemail, radio with CD player, kitchenette with espresso machine and bathroom with tub and separate shower, WC, bidet and two wash basins.
- The Suites Type XL have a size of 80 squaremetres and offer a king-size bed, working desk, two telephones with with voicemail, radio with CD player, dining table, kitchenette with espresso machine and bathroom with tub and separate shower, WC, bidet, steam shower and two wash basins. These suites have a second bedroom with a single bed.
- The Suite Type XXL is the largest suite with a size of 90 squaremetres and offers a king-size bed, working desk, two telephones with voicemail, radio with CD player, satellite TV with large plasma screen, dining table and kitchenette with esprsso machine. This suite has two bathrooms, the main bathroom offer a tub and separate shower, the second bathroom has a shower.
Dining: The Hotel Side boasts a restaurant and a bar.
- The Fusion Restaurant in the new SIDE and the bar belonging to it are optically appetising in and of themselves. The wine menu offers over 90 wines from throughout Europe and overseas - an extensive assortment of teas and fruity cocktails round off the beverages on offer.
- Anyone wishing to relax in style after work will find the ultramodern ambience of the Fusion Bar just the thing. From Wednesday to Saturday evening, the fusion belongs to the city's most popular DJs. Then everyone who is anyone meets here to "chill out".
Sports and Wellness: The wellness oasis in the heart of Hamburg presents itself
in a refreshingly colourful design and is luxuriously furnished. Yellow means feeling good - hence, the treatment rooms are located in the "yellow box". Included in the programme
to spoil and pamper you are various body treatments, Thai massage, facials, peelings and lymphatic drainage. Green brings with it refreshment - spacious showers and
a modern solarium in the "green box" wakes up tired spirits
and offers a luxurious ambience. Orange releases energy - an extensively equipped gym and
fitness area in the "orange box" offers cinema and music in addition to cardio equipment.
Water worlds in blue invite relaxed swimming. An aromatic steam bath, a Jacuzzi and Finnish sauna enliven the body and get the circulation going.
Meetings and Banquets: Six variable conference rooms for 2 to 300 persons, including a ballroom with separate foyer and bar. A lounge is located on the 8th floor, offering excellent views of Hamburg’s inner city and with a roof terrace. Integrated into the lounge as a favoured meeting point is the Executive Lounge. All rooms offer a distinctive interior, state-of-the-art communications technology and air-conditioning, direct daylight and can be fully blacked out if desired.
