Kildrommy Castle Hotel, Kildrummy, Aberdeenshire AB33 8RA, Scotland. Set in the heart of the Grampian Highlands, overlooking the ruins of the original 13th century castle, Kildrummy Castle Hotel offers the style and elegance of a bygone era.
Built as a private home for Col Ogston in 1900 the house was converted to hotel use in 1956, firstly as a seasonal shooting and fishing lodge and then with the provision of all modern facilities in 1978 to the present day first class hotel. The Kildrummy Castle Hotel retained its original turn of the century interior with oak paneled walls and ceilings, wall tapestrie, hand-craved staircase and roaring log fire, and feels very much still a traditional North East of Scotland Baronial Home. Its magnificent location and the renowed Kildrummy Castle gardens, with acres of planted gardens and woodland, provide a haven of peace and tranquility from where you can explore the treasures of the Grampian Highlands. The surrounding Grampian region offers the visitors a wealth of places od interest to visit with more castles than any other part of Scotland. Between Kildrummy and Braemar, home of the September Royal Highland Gathering, lies Balmoral Castle whose rounds arein June and July when the Royal Family is not in residence. Nearby the hotel lies the "Whisky Country", the home of most of Scotland's malt whisky destilleries. Accommodation features: The bedrooms are tastefully decorated and traditionally furnished. Their size ranges from a snug attic bedroom with a private balcony to a grand corner room with enormous windows framing the countryside. The hotel offers 16 rooms all with private bathroom, and each equipped with colour television, radio, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, direct dial telephone and trouser press. The bedrooms vary in size and outlook, many furnished with antique furniture, all providing all the facilities to ensure a warm and comfortable stay. Many rooms can easily accommodate extra beds for children or a third adult. Dining: Dinner in the richly furnished dining room is a delight. The restaurant itself enjoys a deservedly high reputation for the quality of its food and service. Much is madeof fresh local produce, game from nearly estates, fish and shellfish from the North Sea and Moray Firth, and of course prime Aberdeen Angus beef - all complemented by an exclusive list of wines from all around the world. Sports and Wellness: The sportsman will find much on offer with over 20 golf courses nearby the Kildrummy Castle Hotel. Horseback riding, clay pigeon shooting, archery, fishing, off-road-driving and mountain biking available nearby. Additional features: Two meeting rooms for up to 16 people with conference facilities.
