The terraced gardens cascading down the rocks to the private beach are resplendent with Neapolitan ceramics and luxuriant foliage which spills through the windows of the elegant rooms. The cuisine, a tribute to the flavours of the South, is enhanced by excellent French and Italian vintages.
The hotel has justifiably been termed an architectural wonder as it is out of the enormous jagged cliffs that dominate the panoramic Amalfi coast. When in 1962 a private villa was build at the peak of this rocky cliff face about 2 kms south of positano there was only the ancient little oratory of San Pietro. After transforming this villa into an hotel this is today a myriad of 60 rooms cleverly tucked into the cliffs in a series of nearly a dozen ledges, each one-room width, so that every room is perfectly private, with its own balcony and magnificent view.
Hotel Il San Pietro is entered by an elevator, which takes you down through the rocks into the hall which is an airy room with terracotta floors designed by Neapolitan ceramic experts. The rooms and suites impress one even before entering them, with marvellous decorations on the doors, painted by famous artists.
The beach was created in front of one of the most fascinating caves of the promontory; with a sunbathing platform, a bar on the rocks, a tennis court surrounded by a rose garden and flower-filled terraces on all slopes. Theese terraces offer endless views of the sea and the imposing Lattari Mountains. Bright, sunny and Mediterranean, they are privileged places for guests' relaxation or cocktails. From the main terrace you can take in at a glance Praiano, Li Galli and the Coast as far as the Faraglioni Rocks of Capri. Or you can enjoy the spectacular and worldwide famous view of Positano.
Room Facilities : The hotel's 60 guestrooms are equipped with air conditioning, private terrace with sea view, jacuzzi, satellite tv, minibar, safe-deposit box, hairdryer and direct line telephone.

The standard guestrooms are bright and highly comfortable and offer an outstanding view over the sea and the coast. Each one is individually decorated and has a personal touch creating a unique atmosphere.

The deluxe guestrooms offer the same facilities as the standard rooms but are larger than the standard ones which undoubtedly means a greater comfort.
- The Special Rooms are so-called because of their particular position, structure and size.
Each one is different from the other, with its own features, and can be chosen. Taking care of every aspect of our guests' stay, we don't reserve this type of room in advance but we give the guest the opportunity of choosing among the ones available upon arrival.
Dining : The classic dishes of the traditional cuisine harmonize with an International selection to satisfy a wide range of requirements, in a gentle Mediterranean setting. The view is superb and, in the evening, there is a candlelight romantic atmosphere. The tomatoes hanging down from the ceiling are called "'a piennolo". They decorate the restaurant with their colour and taste. The cuisine continues the rich traditions of this land and you'll find them unchanged in the typical dishes of the local cuisine. This will be complimented by the Wine List presenting Italian and International vintage wines.
Sports and Wellness : With its elegant semi circle shape, the swimming pool lies in a setting of incomparable beauty. You swim overlooking the town of Praiano, the sea and the high mountains behind it.
A quiet natural cove with crystal waters: The private beach, for hotel guests only, is a corner of paradise for those who love the sea. Sunbathing on the platform, drinking a cocktail at the bar, going for a stroll on the sand or playing tennis at the nearby court, it offers you absolute relaxation and an excellent privacy.
The view over Positano, Capri and Li Galli is outstanding. As the way to get there: A lift carved in the rock that takes you from the lobby to the sea in a few seconds.
