Im Durchschnitt ist er 7 Kilometer breit und 51 Kilometer lang, erreicht jedoch bei Bardolino eine Breite von 17 Kilometern und erinnert an ein Meer, während er im Norden, durch Berge eingeengt, einem Fjord ähnelt. Die Gardaseeregion geizt nicht mit reizvollen Panoramen; je weiter man die Anhöhen um den See erklimmt umso eindruckdvoller und erhabener wird der Ausblick auf das zu Füßen liegende Wasser und die malerischen Ortschaft am Ufer. Der Gardasee, an dem es üppig blüht und betäubend duftet, an dem Olivenbäume und Lorbeersträucher, Magnolien und Oleander, Agaven und Palmen wachsen, ist eine Schöpfung aus der Eiszeit. Mehrere hundert Meter ragen die Felsen am lombardischen Westufer aus dem Gardasee. Von Riva führt die spektakuläre "Gardesana Occidentale" durch viele Tunnel und Galerien bis nach Gargnano. Dort eröffnet sich gleich hinter dem letzten Tunnel, die Welt des Südens.
Das Dorf Gargnano mit 3000 Einwohnern am Fuße steiler Felswände, einer der wenigen ruhigen Orte mit direktem Zugang zum See, lädt zu einem beschaulichen Urlaub ein. Nur einmal von 1943 bis 1945 stand Gargnano kurz im Rampenlicht der Politik, als Benito Mussolini hier die Residenz seiner "Republik von Salò" unterhielt. Der Palazzo Feltrinelli war Mussolinis Staatskanzlei und die Villa Feltrinelli seine Residenz.
In vorzüglicher Lage inmitten eines 3,2 Hektar großen Parks verwöhnt das 5-Sterne Grand Hotel Villa Feltrinelli seine Gäste auf höchstem Niveau. Die Villa und ihr großer herrlicher Park wurden im Jahr 1892 von der bekannten Familie Feltrinelli als Sommerresidenz erschaffen. Seit jener Zeit schätzten Staatmänner und Künstler die Villa mit ihrem atemberaubenden Seeblick. Mussolini residiert während des Zweiten Weltkrieges in dieser Villa. Den Traum von der eleganten Idylle am Gardasee hat der amerikanische Hotelier und Multimillionär Bob Bruns über 100 Jahre später weitergeträumt. Er kaufte das Anwesen 1997 und hat Villa Feltrinelli stilgerecht als wohl kleinstes Grandhotel Europas modernen Bedürfnissen angepasst. Ein großer Pool ist dazu gekommen und das ehemalige Bootshaus wurde zu einem intimen Luxus-Cottage umgebaut, das man mieten kann, wenn man möchte sogar mit Koch.

La Limonaia Gästehaus: Dieses 76 Quadratmeter große One-Bedroom Cottage besteht aus einem Schlafziimer, einem Wohnzimmer uns einem großen überdachten Patio.
The Boat House: Diese One-Bedroom Premium Cottage liegt am Ufer des Gardasees. Diese wunderschöne kleine Haus besteht aus einer komplett eingerichteten Küche, einem Eß-Bereich, einen Wohnraum mit Kamin, einem Patio unter freiem Himmel, und einem Schlafraum in der ertsen Etage mit einer Terrasse, einem großen Ankleideberich und einem Badezimmer aus weißem Marmor.

Gastronomie: Wurzelnd in kulinarischen Traditionen, welche bis in die alte Rpublik Venedigs zurückreichen, schöpft der kreative und talentierte Küchenchef aus der Fülle einheimischer Produkte und der Weinkeller ist eine Schatzkammer der bekanntesten sowohl regionalen als auch landesweiter Weine.

Im wunderschönen Restaurant wird des Frühstück, der Lunch und das Dinner serviert. Das Restaurant wird dominiert von einem offenen Kamin und hat eien herrlichen Blick auf den Gardasee. Geöffnet ist es zum Frühstück von 7 Uhr bis 11 Uhr, zum Lunch von 12 Uhr bis 15 Uhr und zum Dinner von 19 Uhr bis 23 Uhr. Aber natürlich ist es auch möglich jederzeit am Ufer des Sees, am Pool, im Garten und im Weinkeller sich Köstlichkeiten aus der Küche servieren zu lassen. In den Sommermonaten wird das Dinner auch in der überdachten Pergula, direkt neben dem Restaurant gelegen, serviert. Die Pergula, mit hinreizenden Blick auf den Gardasee, ist elegant mit venezianischen Leuchtern eingericht und ist bei den Gästen sehr beliebt.
Für leichte schmackhafte Zwischengerichte, Erfrischungen oder den Mitternachtssnack ist die Pantry der ideale Ort.
Vor dem Dinner können die Gäste in Bob's Bar, einem einzigartigen achteckigen Raum und der einzige Raum in dem geraucht werden darf, ihren Aperitiv zu sich nehmen.

The area, dominated by Mount Denervo (1459 m), consists of the town of Gargnano, whose houses cluster around the small port, and twelve hamlets, some on the lake (Villa and Bogliaco), others situated on the gentle slopes (Villavetro, Fornico, Zuino, Navazzo, Musaga, Muslone), and still others in the hinterland (Sasso, Liano, Formaga, Costa). All are linked by convenient scenic roads that travel through olive groves and cross meadows and woods. Along the lake are innumerable citrus fruit and lemon groves. Nature and art enhance each other in this area rich of olive trees, lemon trees and mediterranean vegetation. The remarkable rural structures for the lemon trees, together with historical buildings and churches, are the frame for the famous "Centomiglia" held in September.
The Villa Feltrinelli and its grand park were built in the year 1892 by the prominent Feltrinelli family and served as a summer ecsape. Since then, the villa and its lakewiew habe been admired by statemen and artists alike. Mussolini resided several years at the Villa Feltrinelli during World War II. Finally, in 1997, Bob Burns bought the villa with the vision of bringing it back to its former splendor, respecting its grand style and historical importance. He was determined to bring new life to this magnificent villa, filled with beautiful, historical, artistic and architectural treasures. Design teams from around the globe wereconsulted about period features and stylistic coherence in the modernisation of the ville to give the guest the best of both antique elegance and modern comfort.

Dining: With culinary traditions dating back to the Venetian Republic, the villa's chef focuses his talents and creativity on the abundance of local products. The wine cellar abounds with both regional wines and some of Italy's most famous vintages.

The Dining Room serves daily breakfast, lunch and dinner. This lovely room overlooking Lake Garda is dominated by an intricately carved wood fireplace. A full complimentary breakfast is served from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.; lunch is served from 12 noon to 3 p.m., while dinner is available from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. But, like a private home, guests can order at anytime, and be served virtually anywhere, lakeside, poolside, in the garden, wine cellar, gazebo, etc. Chef Christoph Bob, formerly of Alain Ducasse in Paris, creates a locally inspired menu featuring the finest handmade pastas, fresh fish from Lake Garda, and regional Italian specialties.
In the warmer months, alfresco dining is offered in the covered dining Pergola adjacent to the main dining room. Overlooking Lake Garda, this airy room with festive Venetian fabric chandeliers and overhead fans is a favorite of guests.

An ode to old world luxury, the Villa's Private Dining Room seats up to 14 guests around the original Feltrinelli family table. Beneath a magnificent crystal chandelier, walls are dressed in a fabric hand painted with baskets of figs, a pattern found in the archives of the Rubelli fabric house in Venice. Framed in a beautifully carved 17th Century frame, the queen in the painting, "Allegory of the Senses," is a silent guest at every dinner party.
An intimate Wine cellar featuring more than 1,000 bottles of premium wine, primarily Italian, is available for private dinners for up to eight guests, who can also enjoy unique private wine tastings in this climate-controlled cellar.
