Superbly located facing the famous Copacabana beach, the Copacabana Palace Hotel is a true landmark, one of the grandest hotels in South America. Copacabana Palace, Avenida Atlantica, 1702, 22021-001 Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
d in 1923, this impressive stucco-fashioned edifice is Rio's most traditional and luxurious hotel. This landmark was designed by the French architect Joseph Gire who was inspired by two hotels, the Negresco in Nice and the Carlton in Cannes. Sinceng it has only two owners, the Guinle family of Rio de Janeiro and from 1989, Orient-Express Hotels. The Copacabana Palace Hotel has undergone an extensive discreet refurbishment program, which was designed to retain and enhance the hotel's position as South America's premiere hotel.
A new method of illuminating the facade was introduced in 1990 and allows the hotel to shine as brightly by night as it does by the day. By the end of 1991, the hotel's pool area which houses one of the city's largest an most attractive swimming pools was fully renovated.
Accommodation features: The Copacabana Palace Hotel, which occupies an area of over 12.000 square meters of some of the most expensive and sought after real estate in Brazil, has 226 bedrooms and suites, 148 of which in the main building and 78 suites in the Annex (tower wing building) which was added to the hotel in 1948 and fully sound proofed in 1992.
From 1991 to 1995 the Annex and the Main Building were completely renovated and modernized. A new Executive floor (5th floor), which holds 26 rooms and suites and the 6th floor with 7 Penthouse suites were added to the hotel.
While all the bedrooms in the main building are deluxe, the most luxurious rooms are on the 5th, or Executive floor. This floor has 26 apartments and suites as well as an Executive lounge with its own workstations and kitchen. The lounge is solely for the use of guests staying on the 5th floor. Coffee and aperitifs are available throughout the day to those using the lounge.
The design of the apartments and suites on the 5th floor are all exclusive to the hotel. The apartments have been decorated with the Cane Collection and the Junior Suites with the Pan Coupe Collection. The principal suites have been decorated with the Gemstone Collection of Brazilian mahogany, inlaid with Brazilian agates.
All the rooms and suites are equipped with compact disc players, video cassette recorders and televisions. The televisions, when not in use, can be camouflaged from view: a special remote TV lift can be activated to bring the television into view. Both faxes and computer modems can be plugged directly into the telephone system.
Imported American standard metal bathroom fittings have been installed and dressed in Brazilian marble. All the bathrooms feature shaving mirrors and telephones.
The Executive suites feature one bedroom and a living room. The Executive rooms differ according to the view they offer - city view, pool view or beach view - and feature spacious and modern accommodation including:

- King or twin beds
- Butler service
Dining: With its opulent lounges, bars and restaurants, the Copacabana Palace is a haven of relaxation and good living. Guests can choose from two of Rio's finest restaurants: The Hotel Cipriani Restaurant and The Pergula Restaurant.
- The Hotel Cipriani Restaurant, which serves Italian dishes, is one of the most sophisticated in the city and is patronised by the jet set of Rio.
- The Pergula Restaurant is situated by the pool and offers breakfast, lunch and alfresco dining.
- The Copacabana Palace prides itself on its service and our well-trained professional staff are ready to attend to guests' every wish. Drinks and light snacks are served on the Pool Terrace throughout the day.
- The Copacabana Piano Bar is a popular meeting place. Alternatively, you can dine in the comfort and privacy of your own room with 24-hour Room Service.
Sports and Wellness:The Copacabana Palace boasts a magnificent, semi-Olympic size swimming pool, which is without doubt the finest in Rio, and the only rooftop tennis court in the city. The hotel also has a new Fitness Centre and a Beauty Salon.
It is also possible to enjoy a range of water sports, including surfing, jet skiing, cruising and snorkelling around the offshore islands, close to the hotel, as well as golf, beach volleyball and other sports.

The hotel has 10 private meeting rooms and a total capacity of 2500. The opulent Salao Nobre and the Golden Room, with its famous glass dance floor lit from below, have been lovingly refurbished and were red in 1995.
