For over 2,000 years, poets from Virgil and Catullus to Tennyson and Longfellow have raved about the lakes of Lombardy, but it is impossible to do justice when describing the spectacular beauty of Lake Como without visiting and understanding it. The lake is approximately 28 miles (45 km) long and never more than 2 miles (3 km) wide. Private boats and ferries travel up and down the lake, offering views of the most important villas, such as Villa d'Este and Villa del Balbianello, Villa Pizzo and Villa Carlotta. From the pier of the scenic town of Cernobbio, a less-than-two-hour boat ride transports visitors to Bellagio, "Pearl of the Lake" - the most picturesque village of Lake Como.
Villa d'Este, a former 16th century princely residence, surrounded by a 25 acres park, is more than just a hotel. The luxury and magnificence of a bygone era is maintained intact. The five-star Deluxe Grand Hotel simply added all the up-to-date facilities. Upon emerging from the revolving doors you feel the cares of the modern world slip away and the warm greetings of the staff make you feel at home. The design of the lower part of the gardens is from the Renaissance period. The two most outstanding landmarks are the 500 year old plane tree and the 16th century Mosaic with its Nympheum.
The guestrooms, the corridors, the Hall and the public rooms are decorated with antique furnishing and art works which give the hotel a palatial atmosphere. On the ground floor visit the Colonne Room with its biblical paintings. In the Flora Room the statue of Eros and Psyche from the School of Antonio Canova and the 16th century Adam and Eve Carrara marble statues by Marco Antonio Prestinari in the Canova Bar. The Napoleone Room named after the Emperor who planned to visit but never showed up.

Guestrooms & Suites : The Villa d'Este offers 101 beautifully decorated guestrooms and 60 luxurious and elegant junior suites and suites. The main house built in 1568 and known as the Cardinal's building counts 130 rooms while the trompe l'oeil masterpiece known as the Queen's Pavilion, inaugurated in 1860 has 31 rooms. In 1873 the two Villas combined into one property became Villa d'Este. Every air conditioned room is different both in size and décor. Period furniture. Oil paintings. Como silk covers sofas and chairs. Drapes are silk brocade. Linen sheets. Walk-in closets. Some rooms have balconies or terraces or balconies.

• The 101 double rooms are located in both buildings with panoramic views of the lush gardens and the beautiful park. All rooms have been completely renovated and there are no two alike. Dogs allowed in the guest rooms.
• The 47 junior suites are located in both buildings. They are very large rooms, bedroom and sitting area with panoramic views of the lake (Top Junior Suites)or with park and (not or!) side lake view (Exclusive Junior Suites).
• The 13 suites have two separate rooms, one for sleeping and the other a full-sized living room. In the main building the majority overlook the lake terrace with a view of the opposite shore. In the Queen's Pavilion the view includes the pools and looks toward the town of Como.

Cuisine & Cocktails : The Veranda overlooks the Lake and the gardens. It is formal and elegant (jacket and ties required in the evening). In the summer tables are also set up on the terrace. The menu is traditional Italian haute cuisine with an excellent wine list.
The Grill is informal but the ambience is cosy and chic. The menu lists an interesting variety of regional dishes with a choice of the best Italian wines. In the Summer, meals are served in the garden under the century-old plane trees.
The Japanese restaurant Kisho featuring sushi, sashimi, tempura and other Japanese specialties is located in the gardens above the Grill. A great romantic venue. From its terrace one can watch the moon come up over the lake.
The Sundeck Bar overlooking the sundeck and the floating swimming pool, and serves light lunches and snacks, salads, sandwiches and a pasta dish of the day.
The Bar Canova offers drinks and light snacks.
The Terrace Bar, on the lake front, serves drinks and snacks under the chestnut trees in the midst of the jasmine scent.
The Disco and Night Club ared on Friday and Saturday. During the summer months, weather permitting, the band will play on the lake front terrace under the stars. Jacket is required.

Sports & Wellness : The Sporting Club, with indoor pool, gym room, sauna, Turkish baths, squash and golf simulator, is directly connected to the Cardinal Villa through an underground corridor. The Spa is located on the first floor of the Cardinal building and is connected to the Sporting Club by an underground passage. Three swimming pools are available, all heated.
8 tennis courts,sailing, windsurfing, waterskiing. Seven golf courses are nearby. Croquet-Club in approx. 14 miles distance.

Meetings & Banquets : The Villa d´Este is the perfect setting for high-level events to be conducted in a discreet yet inspiring environment. Four reception rooms accommodating up to 400 people and nine meeting rooms accommodating up to 250 people.
